Founded in 2002, Covenant University is a fast-growing, dynamic vision-driven University, founded on a Christian mission ethos and committed to pioneering excellence at the cutting edge of learning. Its vision is to raise a new generation of leaders, in all fields of human endeavours, equipped to make significant contributions globally. Covenant University’s mission is to provide a transformative education through innovative teaching methods, impactful research, and professional services.


Covenant University is home to about 9,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students from at least 16 countries, contributing to a vibrant multicultural community. With a network of over 22,000 alumni spread across 70 countries, the university has a record of producing the most employable graduates in Nigeria. Covenant offers 36 accredited programs through four colleges: College of Engineering; College of Management and Social Sciences; College of Leadership and Development Studies; and College of Science and Technology. These programs are supported by an excellent quality assurance framework, ensuring high academic standards and industry relevance. Students benefit from a curriculum that balances theoretical knowledge with practical, life-applicable skills, enhanced by mentorship and internship opportunities with experienced professionals.


Covenant University actively fosters global engagement through partnerships and exchange programs, broadening cultural perspectives and professional experiences for its students. Since inception, the university has had collaborative relationships with over 75 higher education institutions and organizations worldwide, including leading universities in the United States, United Kingdom, Europe, Asia, and Africa.


Covenant University has positioned itself as a leader in research addressing unique African urban challenges and contributing to global solutions. The university hosts 17 research clusters and centers of excellence with state-of-the-art facilities, including the Hebron Start-up Lab, which incubates student-led innovations. Covenant received a $6 million World Bank grant for research in applied informatics and communication, focused on health solutions for diseases like cancer and malaria. Additional research funding has been sourced from reputable organizations like the National Institutes of Health, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and Innovate UK, supporting projects with an impact on health, food security, renewable energy, sustainable housing, and waste management.


Covenant University has achieved significant recognition, placing 1st in Nigeria and 1st in West Africa in the 2025 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings and 2023 Times Higher Education (THE) Sub-Saharan Africa University Rankings.
