To further promote cooperation among universities in Guangzhou International Sister cities and build a high level platform for exchanges on how universities can serve the development of their cities, and with the support of the municipal government of Guangzhou, the Guangzhou International Sister-City Universities Rectors’ Conference (GISURC) and the Inauguration Ceremony of the Alliance of Guangzhou International Sister-City Universities (GISU), as part of the “2018 Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovation” event hosted by the People’s Government of Guangzhou, will be held December 6-8, 2018 in Guangzhou.
GISURC is sponsored by the people’s government of Guangzhou and organized by Guangzhou University. Under the theme of “Sister-City universities jointly promoting urban sustainable development”, delegates will explore and share their in-depth insight on topics such as globalization of higher education, industry-education integration and international transference of research achievements in universities, sustainable urban development, the building of smart cities, as well as cross-boarder collaboration between universities in fields such as bio-medicine, artificial intelligence, information technology and green energy and materials.
GISU is established jointly by Guangzhou University and other international sister city universities under the principle of “Volunteering, equality, coordination, sharing and mutual benefits”. This university consortium aims to promote exchange and collaboration between universities within this framework, facilitate the sharing of excellent educational resources among the member universities and strengthen cooperation that is mutually beneficial with winning results. The founding members of GISU includes Guangzhou University (China), University of Coimbra (Portugal), Linköping University (Sweden), University of Padova (Italy), University of Tampere (Finland), and Western Sydney University (Australia).
